Green Door!

Yeah managed to get in the legend that is Shakey!

Delighted with today's random discovery.

On the weekly trip to Screwfix and B&Q spotted a rather nice front door outside a run down old shop. On closer inspection turns out the owner is the 'Daddy of doors'. Clearly he has found them in various skips, or from builders pulling them out of houses but another mans trash and all that.

So some quick measuring and a trip to his yard later we are now the proud owners of some new old doors and some rather beautiful locks. We are in desperate need of a new front and 2 internals, the locks not entirely necessary, but lovely to look at. Relatively speaking a bargain, a lock that would set you back £40 at The Architectural Forum for £8. They may need a bit of love but, I got alot of love to give. Oh I love a spot of reclamation, made my weekend!

You Light Up My Life

My total inability to resist overpriced lights continues. I am now the proud owner of a pair of beautiful Tom Dixon’s.

The black and gold beauties were the cause of some controversy and my first proper spat with the builder. The combination of my very particular hanging specifications, the language barrier, total lack of electrical understanding on my part and style vision on his resulted in frayed tempers. We did come to an agreement, however I am not 100% sure it’s the right solution but let’s see how it grows on me. I made him some cakes, plied him with coffee and were are fast friends again.

Usual paint debates ensued, 4 more Farrow and Ball sample pots later …I have every grey shade now, you need not buy any just tell me what you are looking for and I will tell you exactly which hue you require!
After the slight disappointment with Pavillion Grey in the downstairs loo, Lamp Room has restored my faith, a proper grey, a grey, grey, ipactful but not imposing it adds a certain elegance and warmth to the room. Never having been a fan of the ‘feature wall’ I was suffering internal debates over how to incorporate my beloved Downpipe without doing the whole room - Chimney breasts? Second half of lounge? Architrave and skirting only?

Controversially I went for 2 walls, the intent being to create a snug corner, a moodier, atmospheric space in which one may read, write, contemplate under the Mark Dixon golden glow….. (undoubtedly wearing some kind of kimono style robe and smoking a Gauloise). Anyway, it’s alright I reckon!

Floor sanding is delayed until after the forthcoming momentous occasion of the first ever party in the house – a squat party. The excitement is palpable!
